Description
The southwest range of farm buildings at Hafod-y-wern is a single-storey structure built from local stone rubble and topped with slate roofs. This range provides accommodation for animals and features a single bay cowhouse at the far end, which includes a walled yard on the northwest side. It has four stable doors and ventilated glazed windows. The gable end wall at the northwest returns to the northeast, enclosing the farmyard and leading to the piggeries.
Inside, the range includes a small one-bay loose box at the southeast end, followed by the main cowhouses. The first cowhouse has transverse stalling, while the second features a rear feeding walk and a narrow third bay. At the far end, there is a second major cowhouse, which was later converted into a milking parlour, equipped with metal stalling for ten cows. The building is supported by standard 19th-century softwood king-post trusses, with later fittings added over time.
