Description
Plas-du is a substantial house built of local rubble stone with flushed joints and a slate roof, dating from the 18th century. It has two storeys and attics, featuring thick walls and large irregular quoins. The main block consists of three bays and has an off-centre monolithic arch-headed entrance with a boarded door. The ground floor is fitted with 4-paned sash windows, while the first floor has 6-paned sash windows. The house has stone eaves and tall gable end stacks. A small window at one end provides light to a fire stair. At the southwest end, there is a lean-to that incorporates a cartshed. The rear of the house features sliding casement windows and a large lean-to set in the re-entrant angle.
The interior was not inspected at the time, but records indicate that the layout includes a central wide stair hall with living rooms on each side and service rooms at the back. The roof features an early timber collar beam with cusping above the collar and raking struts, along with some original panelling on the lower floors. There is a circular stair in front of the large stack on the east gable, which has very small ventilation lights on the front and end gable.
