Description
The Freedom Cross at Penrhos Polish Village is a Grade II listed structure consisting of a steel cross set into a concrete base. The cross is constructed from sections of steel lattice that were welded together, sourced from the ribs of a Blister Hangar at RAF Penrhos during its demolition. It stands on a concrete cube plinth, which features inset slate plaques with inscriptions on both the front and rear. This plinth is elevated on a square concrete base that has two steps.
The front inscription, presented in Polish, Welsh, and English, reads: "W DRODZE DO WOLNEJ POLSKI – AR Y FFORDD I PWYLL RYDD – ON THE WAY TO FREE POLAND – 3 MAJ 1947." The rear inscription, in Polish, commemorates the Holy Mission in Penrhos, stating: "PAMIATKA MISJI SW. ODBYTEJ W PENRHOS OD 28.8. DO 1.9.1952 - 3.3-9.3.1963."
