Description

This rectangular chapel dates from 1881, constructed with a painted stucco exterior and a slate roof. The east facade is particularly ornate, featuring two tall doors and two pairs of narrow arched windows centrally positioned. These are embellished with stucco panels, bands, and decorative motifs. Angle quoins are present, and a flat band runs along the sill level, interrupted for the doors, with square bosses at the base of the window jambs and mullions. A moulded band sits above the window arches, projecting as mullion caps and impost blocks. The windows have moulded arched heads grouped under a larger, similar stucco arch with a keystone. The window jambs and mullions feature a raised double-moulding set back from the edges, designed to accommodate leading. The double three-panel doors are topped with steep pediments resting on consoles, and overlights have marginal bars. A decorative plaque displaying 'Rhydyclafdy' sits above the window arch level, and a date plaque reading 'A.D. 1881' within a moulded quatrefoil is set in the gable apex, which is also vertically-barred. The windows feature marginal glazing bars. An iron finial scrolls from the apex of the gable.

The north wall is stuccoed and has four tall arched sash windows with small panes, with a moulded string course running around and arching over the windows. The rear wall has two similar windows, and the south wall possesses two further windows, with the remainder obscured by the adjacent chapel house.

The spacious interior lacks galleries. A central pulpit is located on the entrance wall, set forward from a panelled platform with turned balusters. Similar balusters also form the ramped stair rail on either side. A large angled and railed seat sits in front of the pulpit. Behind the pulpit is a richly moulded plaster aedicule featuring engaged columns, foliated capitals, a heavily ornamented arch, and further decoration within the tympanum. The pews are constructed from pine, with roll-moulded tops, cambered ends, and long panel backs. A pine boarded dado runs along the walls, and corner lobbies have four-panel pine doors. A pine panel door provides access to the house and vestry from the south wall. The walls are rusticated stucco, with a moulded coved cornice and window-hoods. The ceiling features a richly moulded plaster border, leading to a central timber pierced rose and a timber boarded margin.
