Description

Ty'n-y-cae is a house built of rubble stone with slate roofs and end stacks. It is two storeys high and has an L-plan layout, with the northern range dating from the 16th century featuring a large diagonally-set stone stack at the west end and a small stone stack at the east end. The lower southern range has a stack at the south end. All windows have been renewed since the 1971 listing but remain in their original openings. The northern range has a windowless west end and a south side with a catslide dormer above a ground floor window. However, the small slot window that previously lit the fireplace stair, mentioned in the 1960 Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of Wales description, was not visible.

To the right, the added southern range includes a door at the angle on the west side, a window above, and another window to the ground floor on the right. The south end features a 20th-century inserted first floor window above a 20th-century lean-to.

At the rear of the northern range, there is one ground floor window on the north side, and the east end gable has two 20th-century windows on each floor. The rear east of the southern range has two rebuilt catslide dormers with 12-pane sashes above a sash window and a 20th-century lean-to porch with a door and window. There is also a wall projection to the right with a roof carried over and one 20th-century window.

While not inspected, it is reported to have a dog-leg wooden stair with slat balusters, original roof timbers, a fireplace beam, and a moulded post and panel partition.
