Description

3 Market Street is a Georgian house, dating from the mid-18th century, originally a three-window, two-and-a-half storey dwelling. The front is faced in roughcast render, and the roof is covered with slate. The front door is centrally positioned and features fielded panels above a plain overlight. The door surround includes consoles and a cornice, with lozenges inscribed into the pilasters. Late 19th-century four-pane sash windows with horns are set within the original window openings. Gabled dormers are visible, featuring small-paned opening windows.

The rear elevation is also rendered and incorporates a single-storey projection and three skylights.

The original layout of the house – a central entrance hall with rooms to the right and left, and a staircase at the rear – is still recognizable, although the interior plan has been significantly altered. A dog-leg staircase with turned balusters and square newels runs the full height of the building.
