Description

A terrace of three late Georgian houses, numbered 7 to 11, Market Street. Nos 7 and 11 have walls finished with scribed roughcast rendering, while No 9 has a pebble-dashed finish. The roof is slate and concealed behind a parapet, with a late 19th century brick stack located to the left of centre and a roughcast stack to the right. The houses are arranged over four storeys and two windows wide. Nos 7 and 9 have half-lit panelled doors on the left and right respectively, while No 11 has a plain panelled door on the left. Nos 7 and 11 retain overlights with radial glazing in an elliptical shape, while No 9 has a replaced overlight. The lower storey has 12-pane sash windows in Nos 7 and 11, and a pair of 2-pane sash windows in No 9. The second storey features tall, two-light casement windows, which have been replaced within the original openings. The third and upper storeys have 9-pane and 6-pane hornless sash windows in Nos 7 and 11 respectively, and 2-pane sash windows in original openings in No 9. The basement areas have replaced windows and doors positioned beneath the front doors. The original rainwater pipes remain.

The houses are set back behind wrought iron railings with moulded finials, stanchions, and cast iron urns. The railings include gates leading to the basements, except at No 7.

The rear elevation of No 7 is roughcast with an added escape staircase. No 9 has a rear wall constructed from rubble stone with brick window surrounds. No 11 has a rendered rear elevation. The terrace is part of a group of buildings numbered 7 to 11 Market Street.
