Description

The Church of Saint Deiniol is a church constructed primarily in the 18th century in a Geometric Gothic style. The exterior is characterised by dark rubble stonework with red sandstone dressings, including decorative bands, and slate roofs with red tiled cresting. The church features an aisled nave with a clerestory, a south porch, and a north baptistery. It also includes a short chancel, a south transept balanced by a north organ chamber and vestry. A western tower was planned but never built, evidenced by the blocked arch and flanking buttresses in the west wall, along with a bellcote on the gable above. A polygonal baptistery projects to the northwest. The church has plate traceried two-light windows to the clerestory, and paired lancet windows to the low aisles, all clasped between ramped buttresses. The south porch is gabled and buttressed, while the transepts have splayed buttresses with ramped aprons to the windows. The east window of the chancel is a rich geometric traceried seven-light design, alongside stepped lancet windows to the north and south sides of the chancel.

Inside, the original layout featured a wide, six-bay nave with a boarded wagon roof supported by false hammer-beam trusses and wind braces. The nave is separated from the corridor aisles by an arcade of continuous low pointed arches, which lack capitals, with recessed clerestory windows above. A high chancel arch springs from corbels, and similar arches exist on either side of the chancel. The chancel ceiling is boarded and ribbed, with arched braced trusses.
