Description

The Tremadog War Memorial Institute is a late Georgian former shop that stands two and a half storeys tall. It is constructed from roughly coursed and squared blocks of quarried stone, topped with a pyramidal slate roof featuring projecting bracketed eaves and a stone stack at the rear. The building has a one-window facade facing Market Square and a two-window facade facing High Street.

The original entrance is located in the splayed corner, where a doorway has been blocked and later converted into a window, which is now also blocked. Above this area, there is a slate plaque commemorating the establishment of the Cambrian Pill dispensary in 1839. On the Market Square side, there is an added bay window with paired 25-pane horned sashes. The middle storey features a 16-pane window, while the upper storey has a 9-pane window beneath a gable, both of which have replaced original sashes.

On the High Street elevation, there is an inserted bay window similar to that on the Market Square side, but the lintel of an original window can still be seen behind it. To the left, there is a 12-pane window in both the lower and middle storeys, and a gabled 9-pane window on the left side of the upper storey, all of which have replaced original sashes. The windows on the right side are blocked in the middle and upper storeys.

At the back of the building, there is a two-storey outshut that is integral with the main range, although the upper storey was added later and is separated from the main range by a vertical joint. Facing High Street, this outshut has a 20-pane hornless sash window in the lower storey and a small-pane pivoting window above. The rear side, which faces a small backyard open to High Street, features two replacement upper-storey windows and a flat-roof porch with a glazed door.

Inside, the building does not retain any notable 19th-century details and has a 20th-century stair. The upper storey consists of a large double-height room, which leads into a single room that forms the upper storey of No. 3.
