Description
The Laundry at Carreglwyd is a domestic service range built in a Georgian style similar to the main house. It is positioned at the rear of the house, featuring a long return to the right and a small walled yard at the back. The building is constructed from rubble masonry and has a hipped slate roof with a slate ridge. It is topped with tall, slender, rectangular ridge stacks that have capping and a square louvre above the main entrance.
This two-storey structure has its principal elevation facing southeast towards the domestic wings of the main house. The front features a five-window range with a central doorway flanked by 18-pane sash windows on the ground floor, and 9-pane sashes above, with two blind panels to the left. The right-hand return is a two-bay range that includes outer doorways flanking a 9-pane sash window to the left and a tripartite small-paned sash in the former smithy entrance to the right, with two 9-pane sashes above.
At the rear of the building is a small walled yard, which previously had lean-to additions, the positions of which can still be seen along the rear walls. The doorway in the principal elevation leads into a small hallway with rooms on either side and steps that ascend to the former servants' loft. The other wing, now converted into office space, was originally a full-height laundry with a smithy at the northern end. Some hewn beams remain, along with the cambered lintel over the smithy doorway.
