Description
Valley Railway Station Main Building is a two-storey structure featuring a three-window range main block. The front has a ground floor canopy that extends over simple single-storey wings on either side, with the right wing being extended by two bays. The first floor is finished in ruled render, while the ground floor is constructed of random rubble stone with freestone dressings, including architraves, a sill band, and quoins. The roof is slate with boarded eaves and moulded timber kneelers. The main block has two large rendered stacks with cornices, positioned in from the gable ends, and a brick stack set in from the gable end of the right wing.
The platform-facing front elevation has three bays, with boarded-up doorways on the ground floor and windows on the first floor. Previous descriptions indicate that the first-floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars, featuring marginal glazing bars on the central window and paired central mullions on the outer windows. There is a blocked window on the front of the left wing, while the right wing has a configuration of 1-3-1 boarded windows, interspersed with two blocked doorways and a boarded doorway on the right gable return. The rear is constructed of rubble, with the roof of the main block continuing down over a projected centre that has a tall boarded window, and lean-tos on either side, the left of which has a shorter boarded window. Smaller openings on the rear of the flanking wings are now boarded.
