Description

Stanley Embankment is a large structure built on a natural terrace across the strait. It is faced with stone and has modern rubble walling on either side to protect against storm damage. The embankment measures 1,189 meters (1,300 yards) in length and stands 4.87 meters (16 feet) high. Its base is 34.75 meters (114 feet) wide, tapering to a width of 10.36 meters (34 feet) at the top. The embankment supports the A5(T) road along its eastern side and the main Euston to Holyhead railway to the west, separated by a tall rubble masonry wall, with a smaller rubble masonry wall along the east side of the A5(T).
