Description
The Betting Stand, also known as Rotten Tower, is a 19th-century structure designed in a picturesque castellated style. It is built from rubble and features voussoirs and a projecting crenellated parapet that steps up to the corner next to the stairs. The stairs are a later addition, suggesting that the Betting Stand was converted from an earlier folly tower. A high cambered arch on the east side opens into seating at the base of the tower, which is covered by a viewing platform above. This platform is accessed by an external stone staircase with a modern handrail. There is also a narrower arched opening leading into a small storage area beneath the stairs.
