Description

4 Strawberry Bank in Linlithgow is a pair of symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay semi-detached villas built in the late 19th century, featuring a central pend. The exterior is made of stugged coursed and squared sandstone rubble, accented with concrete dressings and rustic-style decoration on the canted windows of the north elevation. The pend and main entrances have fanlit and panelled doors, with the main entrance featuring deep-set vestibule doors that include etched glazing.

On the north (entrance) elevation, the left villa has a central door and a window to the right at both the ground and first floors. To the left, there is a full-height canted window adorned with small branch-like studs around the window surrounds, along with a panel displaying a narrow tree trunk decoration in vertical, horizontal, and lattice patterns, topped with a piended roof. The villa on the right is a mirror image of the left.

The south (rear) elevation provides access to the upper villas from the back. The villas have plate glass sash and case windows, a grey slate roof with ashlar coped skews, sandstone stacks with original cans on the gables, and a flat-roofed dormer on the right villa.

The boundary wall is constructed from bull-faced coursed and squared sandstone, featuring end piers with an ashlar coping and pyramidal caps.
