Description
1 Royal Terrace in Linlithgow is a single-storey cottage built around 1875. It features three bays and is constructed from cream sandstone rubble, which is squared and coursed on the north elevation, with ashlar dressings. The building has chamfered reveals, overhanging eaves, and a decorated bargeboard.
On the north (entrance) elevation, there is a round-headed doorpiece with a gabled timber bracketed canopy porch and a fanlit six-panelled door. To the right, there is a bipartite window, and to the left, a canted window. The elevation also includes two decorative gabled timber bipartite dormers with lancet lights and fleuron detail at the jettied apex, along with a rooflight in the centre.
The south (rear) elevation features a lower single-storey service wing that projects at the centre, topped with a nepus gable that has a round-headed window and an apex stack, flanked by two simple dormers.
The windows are plate glass sash and case, and the roof is covered with grey slate. Sandstone coped stacks with moulded cans are present at the gables.
The boundary wall is made of cream sandstone rubble with semi-circular coping and includes a decorative wrought-iron two-leaf gate.
