Description
Millburn Mill in Luss is a late 18th century building with mid 19th century alterations. It consists of a single storey and attic 4-bay cottage that is joined to a 2-storey and 3-storey 4-bay mill, situated on sloping ground. The cottage is constructed of rubble with painted rubble finishes.
The main elevation of the mill features a 2 and 3-storey structure with a boarded machinery door located on the outer right. There are windows at the ground and first floor in the bay to the right of the center. The left side has symmetrical bays that are a later addition, with windows on the principal floor that have small lights directly under the eaves.
On the west gable, the openings are symmetrically arranged at the center, including a boarded door at the ground level, a hoist door above, and a small window. There is an apex stack at the top.
The north (rear) elevation has a 3-bay layout with some alterations, including blocked doors and windows. There is a ruined wheel outshot with part of the wheel shaft still visible. The roof is covered with grey slate and has lead flashings. A raggle of a former gable is located at the center, built over a now-blocked window, with a window to the left of it. A portion of a wing remains, made of painted rubble with a flat corrugated roof and a boarded door.
The cottage features 4-pane timber sash and case windows and has a graded grey slate roof that is continuous with the mill. The low rubble apex stack is complemented by painted stacks with red sandstone coping and clay cans. The cottage has a lean-to porch and flanking windows at the ground level, along with an additional window to the left and gabled dormer-headed windows.
