Description
The footbridge over the Eachaig River at Benmore Botanic Garden was built in the late 19th century as part of the estate's improvements. This bridge features a parallel lattice truss wrought iron construction with large ashlar dies. It is approached from both sides by sloping parapets that have square copes.
Although it appears to date from the late 19th century, the bridge is locally known as the 'Pipe Bridge' because it carried the water main from Glen Massan to Kilmun starting around 1920. It is likely that an existing bridge was repurposed to facilitate the water supply across the river.
