Description
The War Memorial in Crianlarich, dating from around 1922, is a significant figurative structure located at the crossroads of the village. It serves as a tribute to those who lost their lives in the Great War. The memorial features a large battered square plinth topped with a three-dimensional kilted soldier, equipped with full kit and a slung rifle. This central figure is flanked by smaller square battered piers that connect with battlemented benches.
The plinth includes a base course and an inset panel that lists the names of the fallen, along with the inscription, "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE MEN FROM STRATHFILLAN WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR." The piers also have a base course and are capped with stepped tops.
The memorial is primarily constructed from rough-hewn pink sandstone, with some ashlar detailing, while the sculpted figure is also made of pink sandstone.
