Description
This bridge, built around 1825, spans the River Dochart and likely served to improve access to Lochdochart House, which is listed separately. It is a long and narrow bridge constructed of rubble stone, designed with five irregularly spaced segmental arches, two of which cross the main river channel. A cutwater sits between the two larger spans. The bridge forms a significant element of the landscape and is an important part of the Lochdochart Estate. According to Gillies, the estate was acquired by Mr Edward Place of Skelton Grange in the early 19th century; he is presumed to have commissioned the construction of both the house and the bridge. The bridge is shown on the first edition Ordnance Survey map from 1859-64.
