Description
The Luib Hotel dates from the late 18th century, with additions around 1820 and later alterations. It is constructed from rubble with a white-painted harl render. The main (south) facade is a three-bay, single-storey and attic design, with a gabled central bay featuring decorative timber bargeboards, a piended entrance porch, and a timber boarded door. Dormers with piended roofs break the eaves of the flanking bays. A two-bay, two-storey wing, added around 1820, adjoins the right-hand side and is set at a right angle to the original building. A lower two-storey addition parallel to the rear (north) creates an M-shaped roofline. A low lean-to addition is present on the west elevation.
Timber sash and case windows with a 12-pane glazing pattern are visible, alongside some non-traditional replacement windows. Stone gable stacks are present, including one to the gable of the entrance bay. The roof is covered in grey slates. The interior was modernised and viewed in 2005.
The Luib Hotel remains in use as a hotel as of 2020 and is a good example of an early inn, illustrating the local architectural tradition of bargeboards and gabled forms. The timber bargeboards, believed to be in the Breadalbane Estate Gothic style, are thought to have been added around 1850. The hotel is situated prominently on the road between Killin and Crianlarich.
Prior to 2020, a former detached stable building with a hayloft and an additional roofless range to the rear were demolished.
