Description
The Dovecot at Auchernach House dates from around 1810 and is an unusual circular structure featuring a conical roof topped with a finial. It has low, symmetrical rectangular wings with pavilion roofs, located to the northeast of the walled garden at Auchernach. The dovecot has been converted into a silo and is now in a ruinous state. It is constructed of snecked rubble, with contrasting squared rubble used for the long and short margins and quoins. There is an ashlar band course and a slate alighting ledge made of early grey slates.
The entrance is located on the south side and features a later concrete shaft that projects over the doorway. The western wing, which served as a henhouse, has a largely intact roof and includes a central door along with a small entrance for hens near the ground on the right side. The interior of this wing contains nesting recesses. The eastern wing is in a ruinous condition.
