Netherfield House, Strathaven

The stables at Netherfield House, dated 1776, are a three-storey, five-bay symmetrical mansion house. The exterior is harled, featuring painted margins and rusticated quoins. The northwest front has a central door with a traceried fanlight set within a lugged architrave topped by an entablature, and is complemented by a Roman Doric columned porch.

The building has 12-pane sash windows with lugged margins throughout, including three windows on the southeast elevation that have plate glass. There is also one later piended dormer on this front. A cornice runs along all elevations, and each end wall features a central pediment with a blind oculus, with the southwest pediment being dated. Stacks are positioned above each pediment, and the roof is a low piended slate and platform design.

To the south of the main building, there are three detached service and stable blocks arranged around a courtyard, which is enclosed by a retaining wall that curves to the gatepiers on the east. These blocks are also harled with painted margins and consist of single storey and loft buildings topped with piended slate roofs. The east elevation of the south block includes a segmental-headed pend, while the loft of the west block features oculi.
