Description
162 Riverside Road in Kirkfieldbank is a late 18th century, single storey and attic cottage that was originally thatched. The building features four irregular bays, and it may have originally had five. The exterior is finished with blue painted harl and has ashlar margins and an eaves course.
The front elevation faces the main road, with openings positioned close to the eaves. There is a timber boarded window to the left of centre, which has a narrow two-pane strip fanlight above it. To the right, there are three windows that retain their original 12-pane sash and case glazing, and there is a slightly smaller window to the outer left that has later glazing.
On the west gable, there is a window in the gable for the attic. The east gable has been rebuilt in brick with a concrete skew.
The rear elevation features lean-to timber additions and has a steeply pitched roof with harled stacks and thackstanes. The original thatch has been replaced or covered with corrugated sheet metal.
