54 Townhead Street, Strathaven

54 Townhead Street is a house built in the later 19th century. It is a symmetrical, two-storey structure with three bays. The exterior features painted stugged ashlar with margins. The central entrance has a recessed round-headed doorway, framed by an elaborate Ionic pilastered doorcase and a decorative, bracketed cornice.

On the ground floor, the outer bays contain canted, four-light round-headed windows with apron panels. The door and window jambs and mullions are adorned with slender shafts that have foliated caps. The first floor has a bipartite window, flanked by shallow, advanced tripartite windows, also with slender shafts and outer shafts featuring foliated caps. The house is topped with a bracketed cornice, end stacks, and a piended slate roof.
