Description

Mid 19th century 2-storey, 3-bay symmetrical, plain classical farmhouse to centre of single storey U-plan arrangement of farm buildings. Former cart shed and stalls to right (E) range; cow-shed and grain store to left (W) range.

FARMHOUSE: stugged grey/cream sandstone ashlar with polished dressings. Base course; eaves course. Plain margins to windows; long and short quoins.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: later, centred pilastered and corniced projecting square-plan porch; replacement 2-leaf timber -panelled doors; window at 1st floor above. Window at each floor in each bay flanking. Single storey part-range slightly recessed to outer left and right: boarded door with flanking window in range to right. 3 replacement doors (larger to centre) in range to left.

N (REAR) ELEVATION: irregularly fenestrated with 2-storey pitched-roofed later addition from centre and regularly piended single storey wing to outer left.

12-pane timber sash and case windows with various timber sash and case windows to rear. Grey slate roof; slate to rear additions; ashlar coped gablehead stacks to E and W; ashlar skews; cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen, 1997.

RANGES: snecked sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings.

E (CART SHED AND STALLS) RANGE: COURTYARD ELEVATION: 5-bay. Sliding boarded door in bay to centre. 2 segmental former cart arches to outer right; replacement modern roll-up garage doors. Window in bay to left of centre. Sliding boarded door in bay to outer right.

INTERIOR: open-beam timber framed roof; stalls lining walls to left of range; garage conversion to right of range.

W (COW SHED) RANGE: COURTYARD ELEVATION; 3-bay. Large sliding boarded door in bay to left of centre. Boarded door in bay to right of centre. Sliding door in bay to outer right.

EXTERNAL ELEVATION: harled wall with grain store opening set high to centre.

INTERIOR: open-beam timber framed roof; stone cow stalls with iron awban poles and hay hecks.

Grey slate with 2-pane flush roof lights, evenly disposed; ashlar skews to E range; cast-iron rainwater goods.

WALLS: later sandstone rubble wall with ridged ashlar cope and square-plan ashlar pier with shallow pyramidal cap projecting at right angles from E range, enclosing courtyard from road.
