Description
The Old Road Bridge is a probably 18th-century bridge situated over the River Nethan, west of Milton Road, Lesmahagow. It is a single semi-circular arch bridge constructed from rubble with recessed arch rings finished in red ashlar. Low parapets run along the bridge, to which plain 19th-century metal rails have been added. The bridge has a narrow roadway.
The bridge has been superseded by a more modern bridge to the north, which may have been built along the route of Telford's road from the 1820s. Two further 20th-century bridges are located to the north of the original bridge.
