Description
The Sun Hotel on Kirk Street in Strathaven consists of two early 19th century houses and one early 20th century building located to the southwest. The house to the northeast is two storeys tall with four bays, featuring painted ashlar and an altered ground floor, along with two piended canted dormers. The central house is also two storeys with three bays, finished in harled render and with an altered ground floor. Both houses have central wall-head pediments, each containing a blind oculus and apex stacks, as well as an eaves course and cornice. The range to the southwest, which displays simplified Art Nouveau details, is two storeys high with five bays and is also harled. It features broad round-headed windows and a door on the ground floor, along with three first-floor windows topped with pedimented dormer heads. The right bay is advanced and canted, and the building has a moulded eaves cornice and three wall-head stacks. All buildings have slate roofs.
