Description
38 Castlegate in Lanark is a 2-storey, 4-bay warehouse built in 1838, originally known as the Broomgate Institution. The building features coursed stone with ashlar dressings and a plinth. On the south front, there are four windows on each floor, with two central windows set in a shallow projection beneath a pedimented gable head. All windows have segmental heads and earred architraves, and there is a stone cornice above. The modern entrance faces Castlegate and is accompanied by two windows above it. The Broomgate elevation includes two tall doors with segmental heads. The building has straight skews and end stacks, one of which is modern, and is topped with a slate roof.
