Description

The Bank of Scotland, located at 111-113 Cadzow Street in Hamilton, was designed by David Hamilton around 1840. This late classical building features a two-storey structure with a basement and polished ashlar frontages that include three windows. The Cadzow Street side has a shallow open porch supported by a pair of Roman Doric columns, with steps that have a modern railing. On either side of the porch are shallow rectangular tripartite windows with slim mullions set in anta pilasters, topped with circled parapets above both the doorpiece and the bays. The first floor has single-light architraved windows, and there is a central wallhead stack.

On the Auchingramont Road elevation, there is a central doorpiece with Roman Doric pilasters and a circled parapet. The ground floor windows are single-light and consoled, featuring rosettes at the frieze. Both frontages have a bracketed cornice and a piended roof with corniced ashlar stacks. The southwest elevation consists of three windows with plain coursers and a simple cornice. There is also a single-storey recessed wing that includes a door and a bipartite window, along with a blocking course and a tall corniced stack. The interior has been spoiled over time.

The property is complemented by four square ashlar gatepiers with arched tops and original arcaded railings.
