Description
10-14 Academy Street in Ayr is a two-storey and attic, five-bay tenement building dating from around 1780, which is part of a terrace. The building features a rendered exterior, painted at the ground level of No 10, with rubble on the sides. No 10 has a painted base course and painted margins around the window openings.
The southwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a central doorpiece that is corniced, pilastered, and topped with a block pediment. The frieze includes three paterae, and there is a central panel on the block pediment with a painted letterbox fanlight. To the right of the entrance is a lower timber glazed door leading to a square-headed entrance, while there is a single window to the outer right, a later square window to the left, and another single window to the outer left. The first floor has regular fenestration, and there are two canted dormers at the attic level, positioned to the outer left and right.
The windows are predominantly timber sash and case with plate glass, although the glazing to the left and right of the entrances is modern. The roof is covered with grey slate and features coped stacks with circular cans. The interiors were not seen in 1998.
