Description
The Lych Gate at Auld Kirk in Kirk Port, Ayr, dates back to 1656 and has undergone later alterations. It features a square-plan design constructed from sandstone rubble. The eastern gable elevation has an elliptical pend arch, while the screen wall facing Kirk Port has a roll-moulded elliptical pend arch. Inside, there is stone and timber seating along with mort-safes built into the interior walls, and a braced timber ceiling. The entrance from Kirk Port is adorned with two-leaf spear-headed iron gates, and the structure is topped with a grey slate roof.
