Description
Elgin House is a later 19th century single storey and attic cottage located on a corner site at 29 Midton Road in Ayr. The building is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble and features a base course, timber eaves, and painted strip margins.
On the southeast elevation, there is a central square-headed entrance with a timber door and a split letterbox fanlight above, which has a labelmould over it. To the right, there is a tripartite window, with a matching tripartite window in the attic directly above it. The left side has a canted window bay, with a single window aligned above in the attic.
The northeast elevation features a gable with a window set in the gablehead, while the adjoining bays to the right were not visible in 1999. The northwest elevation was also not seen in 1999.
The southwest elevation is asymmetrical and has two bays, with a gabled bay advanced to the left. It features a tripartite window in the centre of the ground floor, which has a hoodmould, and a window set in the gablehead above it. To the right, there is a bipartite window with a hoodmould.
The cottage has timber sash and case windows, a slate roof with a central ridge stack and polygonal cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 1999.
The property is enclosed by square-plan painted stone gatepiers and a low coped boundary wall, with modern fencing on top.
