Description
56-58 Sandgate is a late 19th-century house designed by HV Eaglesham. It is a two-storey and attic building with four bays, located next to the former Sandgate Church. The house is constructed of red sandstone ashlar with brick on the sides. It features a consoled shopfront cornice, a main cornice, and corniced dies above a deep blocking course.
On the southeast elevation, there is a deeply recessed shop entrance on the left, with a glazed timber door. To the right of the entrance is a shop window, and there is a timber door on the outer right with a letterbox fanlight above it. The first floor has four single windows, with pilaster mullions dividing the bays. At the attic level, there is a three-light window with a pediment, and pilasters also delineate the bays.
The shop window on the ground floor has upper sashes with four and six panes, made of timber sash and case windows at the first and attic floors. The roof is a grey slate pavilion style, with corniced brick wallhead stacks and circular cans.
The interior was not seen in 1998.
