Description
Dated 1889, these are former stables arranged in a courtyard plan, with an L-shaped stable block and kennels situated adjacent. The buildings are harled with raised cement-faced margins.
The south-east elevation is near-symmetrical. A gabled two-storey central bay features a round-arched pend on the ground floor, ornamented with impost detail, leading into the courtyard. A tooled sandstone Kennedy coat of arms is displayed in the centre of the gable, flanked on the left by the initials "JK" and on the right by the date "1889". Single-storey, two-bay blocks connect to the left and right sides of the central bay, each with a horizontal two-pane window. Two-storey, single-bay blocks are positioned at the outer left and right, with a ground floor window in the block to the right, and a segmental-arched window above it. The block to the left has a ground floor window and a first-floor window that breaks the eaves. A stepped-up gatepier adjoins the outer right side.
The north-east elevation is asymmetrical, with seven bays. Gatepiers are situated adjoining the outer left side. Two segmental-arched openings are located near the centre of the ground floor, flanked to the left by a small window and to the right by a broad pend to the courtyard. Three gabled windows break the roofline above. Boarded timber doors are flanked by windows on both sides, and a single window is located on the ground and first floors of the outer left bay.
The north-west elevation is also asymmetrical, featuring three deep segmental-arched openings to the bays on the left. The bay to the right is advanced, with a canted bay containing three windows on both the ground and first floors, alongside a boarded timber door to the left and two windows to the left return. Bays adjoining the outer right were not visible in 1999.
The south-west elevation is near-symmetrical, with four bays. Segmental-arched openings are present on both the ground and first floors of the two central bays. Flanking bays on the left and right are stepped forward, with a recessed Venetian window within a segmental arch on the ground floor, and a tripartite window above.
The courtyard elevations showcase a round-arched pend in the centre of the south-east block, flanked by two-leaf sliding boarded glazed timber doors, sheltered by a glazed canopy which overhangs the block. A variety of boarded timber doors are interspersed with irregularly spaced windows on the ground floor of the remaining elevations, along with gabled windows breaking the eaves and skylights to the attic floor.
Ancillary structures, including an L-shaped stable block and outbuilding to the north-east, feature boarded timber doors, irregularly spaced windows, segmental-arched openings, a graded slate roof with lead ridges, skylights, and ventilators. Small, rectangular kennels are situated to the north-west of the stables, boasting a harled exterior with two runs to the west, low walls topped with hooped iron railings, a slate roof with overhanging eaves, and skylights. A "louping-on stane" (a mounting stone) is located to the north-west of the courtyard, comprised of rendered blocks with three steps to the left and right.
The interior was not inspected in 1999.
