Description
Statue House, located at the Burns Monument in Alloway, Ayr, was built in 1830 and is a single-storey lodge with an octagonal plan. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and features a base course and timber bracketed eaves.
The southwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a prominent central porch with a bargeboard and a recessed two-leaf timber door. The other elevations do not have any openings. The roof is octagonal and pyramidal, covered with slate and adorned with lead ridges, finials, and rooflights.
Inside, the lodge contains statues of Nanse Tunnock, Tam O'Shanter, and Souter Johnnie, all carved from local stone by James Thom. The interior also features a plain cornice moulding along the ceiling.
