Description

Slitrig Bank House is an early 19th-century house with late 19th-century additions, featuring two storeys and an attic. It has a three-bay, rectangular plan with a gabled and symmetrical design, painted margins, and two canted dormers. The principal southeast elevation is constructed of whinstone rubble with droved sandstone ashlar dressings, while other elevations are rendered. The house has an eaves course.

Access is via three stone steps leading to a recessed four-panel timber front door, which is topped by a rectangular fanlight. The northeast side elevation has irregular ground-floor windows and two timber-boarded doors leading to the front and rear cellars. At the rear, there is a two-storey off-centre extension with a forestair to the right.

The principal elevation features timber sash and case windows with a four-pane glazing pattern, while modern glazing is used elsewhere. The gablehead stacks are ashlar-coped and rendered, complete with thackstanes and red clay cans. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a metal ridge.

Inside, the house has six-panel timber doors throughout, along with some cornices and timber chimneypieces. A central U-plan timber staircase with a turned timber balustrade is a notable feature, and there are timber-boarded partitions in the cellars.

The property is enclosed by a low whinstone retaining wall at the front, northeast side, and rear, with red sandstone ashlar coping at the front and curved rubble coping elsewhere.
