Description
8 Old Manse Lane in Hawick is a former fire station built in 1857. This two-storey building has roughly six bays and is situated on a sloping site. It features a roundel window above a keystoned segmental-arched engine entrance on the right, which is now blocked, and has a stepped ridge roof that slopes to the right (east). The exterior is rendered, with painted droved ashlar margins and projecting cills.
To the left, there is an irregularly fenestrated section with three bays and a central timber door, while a modern half-glazed timber door is located to the left of the three-bay section on the right. The windows are predominantly timber sash-and-case with an 8-pane glazing pattern. The building also has ashlar-coped brick stacks with tall circular clay cans and a grey slate roof with a metal ridge.
