United Presbyterian Church And Halls, East Bowmont Street, Kelso

The United Presbyterian Church and Halls on East Bowmont Street in Kelso was built by John Starforth between 1885 and 1886. This large, symmetrical church features a first pointed Gothic style. The main entrance is located at the south end, which includes a gabled porch and a four-stage, angle-buttressed tower above it. The southwest corner has a stair and cap-house, while the tower also has a lancetted belfry and a crenellated parapet.

On either side of the tower are two-storey circular stair towers topped with slated conical roofs. These are further flanked by side entrances in canted, gabled two-storey transepts. The church has broad three-bay polished dressings, a slated roof with a decorative tiled ridge, and a small timber leaded fleche. Attached to the north side of the church are the halls, which are similarly detailed.
