Boundary Walls, Willowbush, 17 Abbotsford Road

Willowbush, located at 17 Abbotsford Road, is a Gothic villa built in 1845. This two-storey building with an attic and cellar features an irregular three-bay plan. It has a prominent advanced gable, stepped buttresses, and a projecting chimney with blind windows. The exterior is constructed from squared whinstone, with snecked stone on the sides and rubble at the rear. Buff sandstone ashlar dressings are present, with some areas rendered. The openings have hoodmoulds.

On the front (southwest) elevation, there is an advanced gable to the right and a canted bay at the ground floor. The central porch is also advanced and features a pointed-arch doorway with a fanlight that has perpendicular tracery. To the left, there are gabletted dormers.

The windows are predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case, with some plate glass. The roof is covered with purple slate, and it has pointed ashlar skews and moulded skewputts. Decorative timber snow-catchers and corniced wallhead stacks are also present, along with cast iron rainwater goods that have decorative hoppers.

Inside, several features remain, including a Gothic-arched inner door with a decorative carved timber surround. Above the door is a quatrefoil containing a stained glass image of a Gothic villa. The interior also boasts marble chimneypieces and elaborate plasterwork.

The property is enclosed by rubble boundary walls topped with semicircular coping.
