Boundary Walls, Pollenca, 23 And 23A Abbotsford Road

Pollenca, located at 23 and 23A Abbotsford Road, is a mid-19th century villa built around 1850. This two-storey, three-bay rectangular-plan structure features a single-storey extension to the northwest. The villa is constructed from squared whinstone, with rubble on the sides and rear, and has buff sandstone ashlar dressings. Notable architectural details include a base course, a first-floor band course, and stone-bracketed overhanging eaves, along with banded surrounds.

The front elevation, facing southwest, has an advanced central porch with a cast iron balustrade above the upper window and an arched doorway. The ground floor features bipartite windows, while there is a recessed extension on the outer left that includes a tripartite window. The villa predominantly has timber sash and case windows with lying panes, and a tall casement window is positioned at the center of the front elevation. The roof has a shallow pitch and is covered with slate, complemented by corniced wallhead stacks.

Inside, the villa has been subdivided, but the ground floor still retains decorative plasterwork and original joinery. The property is enclosed by a rubble boundary wall with semicircular copes, and there is a dwarf wall with chamfered copes along Abbotsford Road.
