Description

Stuartslaw is an earlier 19th century house with later additions and alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure with a two-storey single bay addition to the east. The building is constructed from sandstone rubble with droved dressings.

On the south elevation, there is a modern boarded door in the center, topped by a plate glass rectangular fanlight, with a window above on the first floor. Each flanking bay has a window on both floors. The east addition is set back and features a tripartite window at the ground level, which is a modern enlargement with a concrete lintel and timber mullions, along with a window on the first floor.

The west elevation has a gabled end to the right, with a window at ground level in the right bay and a window on the first floor in the left bay. To the left is a two-storey addition that includes a modern platformed sunroom projecting at ground level to the west, which has a timber mullioned bipartite window on the first floor.

The north elevation is irregular, featuring a modern platformed glazed entrance addition at the center. There is a gabled two-storey projection to the right and a two-storey addition to the left, which has a further single-storey gabled addition projecting to the north to the right of the left bay.

The windows throughout are plate glass sash and case. The roof is slate, with ashlar coped skews and ashlar corniced stacks at the gableheads on the west and east sides. There is a two-pane 19th century skylight located to the right of center on the north elevation.

The boundary walls include a rubble wall to the south that forms a terrace, and a rubble coped quadrant wall to the west with simple railings. This wall is flanked by square-plan coped piers and features a wrought-iron cross-bar gate with cast-iron piers on either side.
