Description
Allanbrae is a mid to later 19th-century ashlar house with later additions and alterations, particularly in 1924. It is a single-storey, three-bay structure with some rendered repairs. The house has a base course, Tudor hoodmoulds over each opening, moulded surrounds, stone mullions, and transoms, and quoin strips.
The northeast elevation features a two-leaf panelled door with a square-plan, Tudor-arched arcaded porch supported by octagonal piers. There is an ashlar ribbon above the arch. A bipartite, transomed, and mullioned ashlar window is located in the bay to the left, with a hoodmould that steps up at the centre. The bay to the right is advanced and two-storey with a four-light canted window at ground level, swept to square at the first floor, with shields carved into each section of the swept area. Above this is a tripartite window with a stepping hoodmould similar to the one below.
The southeast elevation is five bays wide and has a moulded eaves course. A doorway, now a window, is partially blinded in the centre bay. It includes a Tudor-arched doorpiece with the inscription "I love them that love me and those that seek me early shall find me" carved into the architrave. A slightly advanced bay to the right of centre has a bipartite, transomed, and mullioned window. The bay to the outer right is also slightly advanced, featuring a further advanced, shouldered chimney breast that breaks the eaves and has a shield carved at eaves height. To the left of centre, bays each feature an advanced tripartite, transomed, and mullioned window flanked by diagonal buttresses, which originally supported dormerheads above the eaves and now have a cat-slide roof. A diagonal buttress is located on the outer left of the elevation.
The southwest elevation has been significantly altered. A stepped and gabled end wall, belonging to a hall, extends to the outer right and features a tripartite, transomed, and mullioned ashlar window, where each upper light is now blinded and cinquefoil-headed. A weathervane is situated at the apex. A sandstone coped wall extends to the left and now incorporates a modern lean-to sunroom-porch. A wall projecting from the outer left now incorporates an entrance to a garage.
The windows are timber. The roof is slate with ridge tiles. There's an elongated rendered wallhead stack to the outer right of the southeast elevation and an ashlar-coped stack to the ridge between the bays to the left of centre on the southeast elevation, along with various other stacks. The house has profile guttering.
The interior was not inspected in 1996.
A gatepier is constructed from ashlar and has a square plan and coped top.
A bird bath or fountain consists of a cast-iron shaft with an octagonal design leading to the bowl. Above the shaft is a bulbous section surmounted by a bird, with arms extending out from which chains and bell pendants hang.
