Description

The building is a Post Office located on Main Street in Allanton, dating from around 1800 with later additions and alterations. It consists of a two-storey, irregular four-bay pair of cottages, with the Post Office on the left and Rose Cottage on the right, forming part of a larger terrace. The exterior is constructed from harl-pointed whinstone rubble, featuring polished ashlar raised margins at the ground level with droved ashlar tails, and polished margins at the first floor with stugged ashlar tails. There are some rendered repairs present.

On the east elevation facing the street, there are windows at both the ground and first floors in the outer left, penultimate right, and outer right bays. A part-glazed door is located between the centre bays, with another door in the bay to the left of centre, flanked by an additional window to the left and a first-floor window above.

The west elevation has not been seen since 1996. The left two-bay group features plate glass timber sash and case windows, while the right three-bay group has modern timber tilt and turn windows with two panes. The roof is slate, with ashlar coped skews. There is a brick gablehead stack to the north and a truncated brick gablehead stack to the south.

The interiors have not been seen since 1996.
