Description

The property comprises an early to earlier 19th-century farmhouse with later additions and alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay building, classically detailed, with a two-storey addition at the rear. The farmhouse is harled with cream sandstone ashlar dressings, featuring a raised base course and a moulded eaves course. Rusticated quoins, sandstone margins, and projecting cills are also present.

The south-east (entrance) elevation has steps leading to a timber-panelled door centrally located at ground level, above which is a large decorative fanlight. A pilastered and corniced door surround is present. A single window is aligned at the first floor. Single windows are positioned at both floors in the bay to the left. A tripartite window is found at ground level in the bay to the right, with narrow sidelights, and a single window on the first floor. A single-storey ancillary structure is recessed to the outer right.

The south-west (side) elevation shows a two-bay section to the right with single windows at both floors in each bay. One window is blocked at ground level to the left, and another is blocked at first floor level to the right. A two-storey wing is recessed to the left, containing a single window at both floors in the right bay and a single window at the first floor in the left bay.

The north-west (rear) elevation displays a two-bay wing recessed to the right with a single window at ground level in the right bay and small windows at both floors in the left bay. A two-storey wing projects to the left incorporating single windows on both floors, offset to the right of the centre. Another single-storey ancillary structure is recessed to the outer left.

The north-east (side) elevation is a three-bay range to the left, which includes a blind window at ground level in the outer left bay, a single window at first floor level offset to the right of the centre, and single windows at both floors in the right bay. A two-bay wing projects to the outer right with single windows at both floors in the left bay, a timber door at ground level in the right bay, a three-pane fanlight, and a single window aligned at the first floor.

The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass, four-pane, and twelve-pane glazing. The roofs are grey slate, piended, with iron rainwater goods. Corniced brick wallhead stacks are present, topped with various circular cans.

The interior was not inspected in 1998.

Surrounding the garden to the southwest are harl-pointed rubble walls with battered coping. Lower, coped and coursed sandstone quadrant walls flank the entrance. Outer gate piers are square-plan with shallow pyramidal caps. Inner gate piers are also square-plan with corniced, shallow pyramidal caps, and a modern iron gate.
