Description
The Dovecot and adjoining Byre Range at Melrose Abbey date from the earlier 18th century. The dovecot is a lean-to type structure made of rubble with ashlar dressings. It features crowstepped flanks and cavetto moulded skewputts. The roof is slated and has a central gabled dormer that contains tiered flight-holes. The east gable is taller than the west gable and connects to the mid-19th century byre range. The byre has straight skews, is constructed of coursed rubble, and has a slated roof with a central rectangular stack.
