Description
Hume Lodge is an early 19th century, single-storey, four-bay estate cottage situated on Castle Wynd within the boundary wall of the Thirlestane Castle estate. The building is constructed from roughly squared and snecked whinstone rubble, featuring pale sandstone ashlar quoins and red sandstone margins.
The south (principal) elevation has a timber door on the far left, with three regularly spaced windows to the right. There is a small attic window on the west gable elevation. At the rear, there is a later single-storey addition that includes some later windows on the front. The garden area is defined by a low rubble wall at the rear (north and west) of the property.
The windows are timber sash and case with 12-pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slate and features a central coped stack with clay cans. There are cast-iron rainwater goods. To the right, there is a vehicular gate and a pedestrian entrance with a solid stone lintel that breaches the Thirlestane boundary wall.
