Description
15 Exchange Street in Jedburgh is a late 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay tenement building that may have originally housed coach works on the ground floor. It is situated on a corner site with a basement and attic, and the ground level slopes down to the southeast. The building is constructed from snecked, bull-faced cream sandstone, featuring ashlar long and short dressings and chamfered arrises. The attic windows break the eaves and are topped with gabled dormerheads.
On the southwest elevation facing Exchange Street, there is a deep-set boarded door with a rectangular two-pane fanlight to the right. The centre features a wide, full-height segmental-arched window, which is divided by a timber transom into two tripartite windows. To the left, there is a full-height single window divided by a stone transom. The first and second floors each have three single windows, and there is a chamfered angle corbel that transitions to a square at the first floor.
The northwest elevation facing Friarsgate has a bay on the outer left with single windows on each floor. To the right, there is a broad blank gable, and the gablehead stack has been removed.
The building features timber four-pane sash and case single windows, which have been replaced by two-pane swing plate glass windows on the second floor. The ground floor windows facing Exchange Street include fixed and sash and case timber windows. The roof is finished with flat ashlar skews and a coped ashlar stack at the rear gable, covered with grey slates.
