Description

1 High Street in Dundee is a late 19th-century, four-storey tenement building featuring plain baronial detailing. It is situated on an angled corner site and includes a shop on the ground floor. The exterior is constructed from stugged sandstone coursers with ashlar dressings and topped with a grey slate roof. The ground floor has a cornice, while the gables are coped and crowstepped, with corniced gablehead stacks. The windows are two-pane timber sash and case, with architraves on the first floor, chamfered jambs on the second, and segmental heads on the third. Some windows feature shouldered dormerheads and finials.

On the front elevation, there is an original shopfront at ground level, with three windows on the first and second floors (the center windows are blocked) and two windows on the third floor, topped by a gable and a dormerhead to the right.

The left return elevation includes a shop window on the ground floor to the right, with a blind to the left. At the first floor, there is a five-light canted window with cast-iron brattishing that is corbelled out at the center, flanked by windows on the left and right. The center bay is slightly advanced on the upper floors, featuring two windows on each floor and terminating in a gable with a stack. The outer bays also have windows on each floor, with dormerheads on the third floor.
