Description

The gate and gatepiers at Springwood House were designed by James Gillespie Graham in 1822. This classical archway features a moulded keystone and a coffered soffit, which is flanked by paired engaged Tuscan columns on pedestals. Above the archway is a triglyph frieze and a mutulated cornice that includes a raised armorial panel at the center. The gateway is bordered by coped screen walls that have square, pyramidical capped terminal piers.
