Description

The tollhouse on Bridge Street in Kelso was designed by John Rennie around 1803. It is a single-storey building that features a carriageway with a basement below. The front has three bays, with a central door flanked by engaged Tuscan columns. Above the columns, the entablature and cornice project forward. The corners of the building are accentuated by clasping Tuscan pilasters. The roof is piended and covered with slate. The front is made of polished ashlar, while the flanks and rear are constructed from coursed squared rubble.
